چکیده

One of the challenges faced by medical-device manufacturers is the use of short-term in-vitro data to evaluate the long-term in-vivo corrosion performance of implants. In this study, mechanically polished Nitinol wires were immersed in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) at 37 °C for up to one week prior to performing cyclic polarization tests. Results are presented that show the effect of immersion time on rest potentials and breakdown potentials, and hence the resistance to pitting corrosion.

The Inhibition Effect of Polyethylenimine (PEI) on Pitting Corrosion of 304 Austenitic Stainless Steel in 3.5% NaCl Solution

One of the problems in the case of stainless steels is their low corrosion resistance against pitting corrosion in chloride containing environments, thereby leading to severe damage to industries. In this research, the pitting corrosion of 304 austenitic stainless steel was studied in 3.5% NaCl solution at room temperature (25˚C) by performing electrochemical measurements (containing cyclic pol...

A Corrosion Study of Grain-Refined 304L Stainless Steels Produced by the Martensitic Process

AISI 304L austenitic stainless steel with different grain sizes of 0.5 -12 μm was obtained through the martensitic process. Corrosion behavior of different samples was investigated in a 0.5M HCl solution using open circuit potential, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests. Also, the correlation between the grain size and pitting corrosion resistance was as...

Composition Distribution and Electrochemical Behavior of an Ni2Al3 Coating on Q235 Steel

An Ni2Al3 coating was prepared via the electrodeposition of nickel followed by pack aluminization. Polarization curve and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were performed to study the room temperature corrosion behavior of the coating in a 3.5 wt. % NaCl solution. The long-term impedance of the coating was also investigated after immersion for 30 days. Results show that the Ni2Al3 coating ...

Effect of welding parameters on pitting corrosion rate of pulsed current micro plasma arc welded AISI 304L sheets in 1N HCl

Austenitic stainless steel sheets have gained wide acceptance in the fabrication of components, which require high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance such as metal bellows used in expansion joints in aircraft, aerospace and petroleum industries. In the case of single pass welding of thinner sections of this alloy, Pulsed Current Micro Plasma Arc Welding (PCMPAW) has been found bene...

Modeling and Prediction of Long-Term Corrosion of Steel in Marine Environments

This paper reviews recent developments in the prediction of the likely future corrosion losses and of the maximum pit depth for steels exposed to marine environments. A robust mathematical model based on corrosion science principles and calibrated for immersion conditions to an extensive range of literature and new data is described. The model has provided explanations for the effects of steel ...
